Realizing that there are few aspects of the natural landscape that are without human influence, Demaria sees the landscape as a human subject like a portrait. While conventional landscapes describe a space and tell a story, Demaria is interested in representing the emotions and memories he feels and he finds within the landscape in. Demaria’s artwork combines his interest in American history with contemporary developments in the landscape while he aspires to create “portraits” of this complicated subject.
After studying and obtaining his BFA from Cornell University with a focus on Intaglio Printmaking, William Demaria worked as a printer at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) for 3 years. Constantly surrounded by incredible prints, his favorites being Jasper Johns, Terry Winters, and Amy Cutler, Demaria was inspired to continue developing his own artwork. Now William Demaria lives in Baltimore Maryland where he works on his artwork and helps other artist print editions out of Ink Spot Press. Demaria is represented at the Washington Printmakers Gallery.
