Rene Hugo Arceo graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has held solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua, Poland, Puerto Rico, Canada, Argentina, Norway, France, and Italy.
Rene was awarded an Art Residency in Switzerland, 2018; Illinois Arts Council grant to exhibit and travel to Poland, 2002, and France, 2006, and a Chicago Artists Abroad grant to exhibit in Mexico. Collections include: the Blanton Museum of Art, the Fine Arts Museum, Boston, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the McNay Art Museum, the Benson Latin American Collection @ UT Austin, and Concordia University, Chicago.

Many of the influences and sources of inspiration for my work come from the artists of the Mexican School of Art like Alfredo Zalce, Sara Jimenez, Alberto Beltran and Leopoldo Mendez. Other European masters as well like Kathe Kollwitz and Francisco Goya.

Human, social, and sometimes political commentaries are the common themes addressed in my prints. I feel that as a member of a given society the artist should artistically respond to social, economic or even political events taking place in our world today. My feeling is that artists reflect, in lesser or larger commitments, their own time and place.
