Biography
In my work I strive to capture the transient beauty I see in the natural world around me. I find inspiration by collecting the remnants and traces of the passing seasons. Leaves, branches, feathers, and seed bods, they all inspire me. The changing colors of the leaves, the way they dry and curl into mini sculptures, galvanizes me to capture their essence before they crumble and disappear.
In my current work I stride to get the essence of nature’s colors by extracting the color of leaves and plants onto my printing paper to combine with my etchings. I’m also striding for more spontaneity in my work. I achieve this by taking pre ground plates on my nature walks and working on them on site. I find that this lends a freedom to my line work, which I feel captures nature’s true essence.
