Biography

Marta Nowicka is a Polish printmaker and painter based in New Jersey, specializing in monotypes and collagraph techniques. Her practice is rooted in experimentation, combining processes such as carborundum, drypoint, chine collé, and layered inking to explore texture, transparency, and variation within each print. She has exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions, including Superfine Art Fair in New York, 14C Art Fair, The Other Art Fair Dallas, and Aqua Art Miami. She is a member of the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and the Monotype Guild of New England, supporting her ongoing exploration of printmaking practice.

My work is rooted in abstraction and my love for texture, layering, and surface. I create mostly unique mixed media monoprints and variable editions, working with monotypes and collagraphs. I enjoy experimenting and pushing printmaking in new directions, including using laser-engraved plates or polymer clay plates. I am especially interested in contrasts—between textures, shapes, and lines—and in the balance between control and unpredictability. I often build my images slowly, allowing each layer to respond to the previous one, creating depth, rhythm, and a sense of quiet tension within the composition.
