Biography

I aspire to craft imagery that captures the essence of everyday experiences stirring my curiosity and resonates with my soul. I seek to revisit and re-evaluate materials, subject matter, mediums, and the playful activities of my childhood. My body of work employs familiar animals as motifs, embracing their whimsical charm. My hope is to communicate with my audience and that my work will evoke memories of cherished moments in each viewer’s unique life narrative.

Mariko is an artist based in New York City. She was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved to the United States in 2000. She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design where she received bachelor’s degrees in fine arts and architecture. She studied Printmaking at SVA and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. Her body of works range from printmaking and collages to 3-dimensional objects and picture books. Her works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in New York and Tokyo.
