Maclovio Cantú IV- born in South Bend, Indiana (b. 1990) is Chicanx artist and educator. Maclovio earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Indiana University South Bend in 2015 with a concentration in printmaking, and a Masters of Fine Art with a concentration in printmaking from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2021.

Maclovio works across the spectrum of printmaking as well as painting, sculpture, and quilt. Rasquachismo, barrio culture, and pushing the boundaries of traditional Print allow him to live. He is the Assistant Professor of Printmaking at the University of Texas at Tyler.

My work examines ChicanX identity, memory, and resilience through printmaking. Rooted in working-class and migrant experiences, I draw from rasquachismo—repurposing found materials, textiles, to construct layered matrices and tactile prints. The work chronicles events unfolding locally and nationally. I begin with dense ink drawings carved directly into the matrix, producing high-contrast prints with gestural mark making and deep blacks. Symbols such as nopal spikes and barbed wire operate as metaphors for resistance, struggle, and protection. Influenced by lowrider and barrio visual traditions, my prints connect personal history to broader social realities while asserting a vital ChicanX voice in contemporary printmaking.
