Biography

Katya Stavisky Jackson is a Los Angeles–based printmaker and painter working in monotype, linocut/woodcut, and intaglio processes. She studied Product Design and Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University and worked in those fields for a decade before transitioning to art full-time in 2024. Her work has been exhibited and recognized across the US, UK, and Japan, including a Director’s Cut shortlist at the 2025 Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, selection in the 2025 Ironbridge Fine Arts Printmaking Competition, and inclusion in the 2025 PrintAustin National Printmaking Showcase. She is a member of the California Society of Printmakers.

Printmaking is a slow accumulation—five layers, ten, twenty—where the image isn’t fully known at the start. I begin with drawings from observation, but in the studio I rediscover them, rewriting memory through repetition. The process asks for patience, intuition, and trust in my hand and in something less explainable that takes over as I work.

I’m drawn to desire in ordinary things—the heat of summer fruit, a body half-lit, the movement of light across my closed eyelids—and try to press these sensations into paper. My work is rooted in hand processes where each impression carries variation—original, but not singular.
