Jordan Thornton is a printmaker living and working in Helena, MT. She holds a BFA from Montana State University and an MS in Medical Illustration from Augusta University. Jordan has shown her work across the country and has completed residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Chulitna Lodge in Alaska, and numerous residencies across South Dakota. Currently, Jordan is the Gallery Manager the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts.
Jordan’s gravitation towards textiles, and botanical and agricultural imagery stem from her own family history, which is directly referenced in her artwork. The walls of her studio and home are adorned with dresses, needlepoint works, paintings, and quilts created by the generations of resilient creative women that came before her in the prairies and farmland she calls home. These delicate heirlooms act as inspiration when choosing the mediums appropriate for each artwork’s message and composition, and Jordan aims to honor them directly through subject matter, materials, and mediums.
