Brian Kreydatus received his BFA from Syracuse University and MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1995 he was awarded a Fulbright Grant to Dublin, Ireland and was a member of the Black Church Print Studio. He is a Professor at William & Mary where he has taught printmaking and life drawing since 2001.

Mr. Kreydatus’s primary source of imagery is the figure with an emphasis on the human condition. He has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows in New York, Philadelphia, Ireland, France, Serbia, Canada, China, Portugal, and Japan.

My work is about the physicality and vulnerability of the human body within the context of various life experiences and limitations that are inherent in the human condition. My process involves a rigorous scrutiny of the figure, drawing directly on the support in front of the figure. I work in a wide variety of printmaking mediums, choosing each carefully for its specific qualities to say something about what it means to be human. The kernel of truth from the original encounter is developed extensively in the printshop drawing upon memory and a full engagement with the language of printmaking.
