Biography

Benjamin Waldow (Bendow) is a multidisciplinary artist from Los Angeles, educated in Chicago and is based in Brooklyn. He draws inspiration from forms found in nature, architectural shapes and manufactured objects. He weaves a narrative of forms, structures and living creatures throughout his prints, drawings, sculptures and occasional performances.

I enjoy printmaking because there’s something magical about its processes, while also being the most direct mark-making without working straight on the final surface. The time and effort that goes into creating a print is rewarded with the final reveal, though the steps along the way are why I am most drawn to print. Working on a litho stone or a relief matrix, I feel a connection to the object I am altering. I find the final block to be just as interesting as the print, oftentimes able to stand alongside it as a sculpture.
