Aaron Bass is a printmaker who lives and works in New Mexico. The focus of his work is expressing an urban animist philosophy through narrative imagery. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Tyler School of Art, a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico and is a Tamarind certified printer. His prints are in national and international collections. Currently, he teaches printmaking at University of New Mexico and previously has worked for the press manufacturer, Takach Press.

My work is an interpretation of animism. At an early age I developed a habit of collecting discarded objects wherever I lived. They functioned alone like a note of music or a single syllable. When combined into a composite composition a complete personality is formed. I start with a significant event in my life that has universal applications and build a narrative using my alphabet of symbols and objects.
I find it important to distract the critical portion of the mind, to make intuitive decisions. Printmaking is ideal for this as; technical considerations must be considered at every juncture.
