Candacee White is a multidisciplinary artist based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working in printmaking and painting. White spent fifteen years living and working abroad as an educator, residing in five countries and traveling to over eighty. Her work explores proximity and displacement, as well as nature and the human experience. She is interested in how we navigate connections across cultures, relationships, and belief systems. She has had solo exhibits in Yangon, Myanmar, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Living overseas for 15 years, I became attentive to how people locate meaning across cultures. Navigating place and identity and forming or changing beliefs as we migrate or change over time fascinates me. Through relief printmaking, I combine disparate symbols, deities, and animals, I share a pluralist perspective on the shared human pursuit of mystery across time and culture. This pursuit, I believe, is what makes us most human. I use a variety of printmaking techniques because I am enchanted by the magic of pulling the first of many prints, and I value the democratic nature of creating in multiples.
